David Fincher is making a bloody return to Netflix with Mindhunter.
Netflix has dropped the first trailer for his new crime series, set in 1979 inside the FBI’s serial crime unit. Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany star as FBI agents who interview imprisoned serial killers to try to solve ongoing cases. The cast also includes Anna Torv (Fringe) and Hannah Gross (Unless). Netflix premiered the trailer at an event in Berlin on Wednesday.
House of Cards.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
The Social Network.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
Clearly, I love David Fincher.
I can’t wait for this. It seems like a bizarre mind-meld between Hannibal and (Season 1 of) True Detective. Oh, and it will be executive produced by Charlize Theron, so add that to the list.
The only thing missing right now is a score from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross… one can dream.
Netflix is seriously ramping up their production and star power lately. With a rumored $6B in proposed content spending for 2017, things are really heating up. What I find really impressive about Netflix, is that they seem to be able to really keep things under wraps until suddenly a trailer for a new show appears out of the blue. Stranger Things was last year’s breakout hit, followed closely by The OA. Now, with both Netflix and Amazon earning Oscars this year, I don’t suspect we’ll see any slowing down from the streaming giants.
